Keeping Law

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
— Deuteronomy 6:5

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
— Ecclesiastes 9:10

And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
— Mark 12:29-30

This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Keeping the Law, by Martin Luther.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
— Matthew 22:37

Our sins are forgiven perfectly through the shed blood of Christ. Yet It is not true, that we would not need to keep the law anymore, and that we can live freely in sin. No, now you can actually begin to keep the law.

The law is the Eternal, Immutable, Immovable Will of God. It is necessary to preach grace, so people can find counsel and help, and know how to keep the law. This is our help. Christ spraise the Father, and Christ asks the Father to forgive our sins, and not account to us what we are guilty of. He promises to give us the Holy Spirit, whereby our hearts begin to love God, and keep his commandments. The purpose of God in being gracious and merciful to sinners, is not so that they would no longer need to keep the law, or that they can continue who they were. He reconciles sin. He forgives sin, for Christ’s sakes. For Christ, who has fulfilled the law. He makes our hearts tender and soft, and kindles it through the Holy Ghost, so those hearts begin to love Him in return. This love increases day by day. God respects us in grace, but also in truth. John says that Christ is full of grace and truth. This is a grace which Moses or the law cannot give us. In the kingdom of grace, we are forgiven, for not perfectly keeping the law, although the demand is on us. The law is not abolished by grace. We receive love through the Holy Spirit. This fire of love, goes to all God’s commandments. This will continue until the last day. On the last day when the whole world shall burn, the fire shall only cleanse us, when we will have continued in the faith. We shall be like the sun, and our love shall shine like atoms in paradise. Then we can say the law is fulfilled, as the law will no longer accuse us, but all shall be paid and finished. We will no longer need, for Christ to cover and pray for us, as we will be perfect that day.
